Suggesting intelligent thresholds

The Unisphere Performance Management application allows the user to gather, view, and analyze performance data to troubleshoot and optimize the storage systems.

About this task

You can use the intelligent threshold functionality to analyze historical trends of performance metrics and system capability, and use the data to help to set appropriate thresholds that highlight real issues.

To use this functionality, the storage system must be registered for the collection of performance data, you need a minimum of 15 days of performance data. Only the System and Storage Group categories of metrics are supported.

To create performance threshold alerts:

Steps

  1. Select Settings icon.
  2. Select Alerts > Performance Thresholds and Alerts.
  3. Click Suggest Intelligent Thresholds.
The following properties are displayed in the Suggest Intelligent Thresholds dialog:
    • System—The storage system
    • Category—The category to which the selected metric belongs. Only the System and Storage Group categories are supported for intelligent thresholds.
    • KPI/All—Filters the list of metrics by whether they are KPIs or not.
    • Metric—The metric for which you want to generate intelligent thresholds.
    • Intelligent Threshold Alert chart—Displays the suggested threshold values and projection data.
    • Close—Closes the dialog and cancels the operation.
    • Apply—Generates suggested threshold values.
  4. Select All or a particular storage System.
  5. Select the Category, Instance (for Storage Group categories), and Metric that you want to use as a template when configuring intelligent thresholds. You can select KPI or All to filter the metrics displayed.
  6. Click Suggest Thresholds.
The Intelligent Threshold Alert charts are generated. The upper chart displays suggested values for the First Threshold. The lower chart displays suggested values for the optional Second Threshold.
  7. To create threshold alerts with the suggested values, click Apply.
The Create Performance Threshold and Alert dialog is displayed, with the metric and suggested threshold values populated.
  8. If required, edit the suggested threshold and alert values.
  9. To create the threshold for the given instances and metric, click OK.
